Graham Sutherland

1903 - 1980 / English

Along with Henry Moore and Feliks Topolski, Graham Sutherland participated in the British War Artists program and it was through this initiative that he came to the attention of Zika Ascher. Sutherland’s two designs are abstract interpretations of natural forms. His two square designs are a departure from his other works of this period, as they are monotone and non-figurative. In addition to the Ascher Squares Sutherland would create other designs for fashion textiles and even provide a design for a Harpers Bazaar Cover.
